Picture Perfect

Before I begin the blog post I wanted to state that my prayers and thoughts are with Berlin this week after a terrorist attack occurred at their Christmas Market killing and injuring people.

Göttingen liegt mitten in Deutschland. Ich fliege nach Frankfurt und fahre dann mit der Duetsche Bahn nach Göttingen. Diese Bahnfahrt ist 2 Stunden und 30 Minuten. Die Stadt ist  klein, aber es ist prima.

Göttingen is located in the middle of Germany.  I will fly to Frankfurt first then take the Duetsche Bahn to Gottingen. This train ride is about 2 hours and 30 minutes.  The city is pretty small, but it is great.

About Göttingen ( Videos)

I am posting a few different videos on Göttingen. Feel free to comment or ask questions below :

Video 1 : This video gives a jist of the Goethe Institut program in Göttingen. The video is from 2012 but most of the stuff in the video is accurate for their current program.

Video 2 : This is from University of Göttingen - Georg-August-Universität Göttingen which has about 30,000 students. The campus is about 10-15 minutes away from the Institut. It is one of the most prestigious universities in Germany with around 40 Nobel Prize alumni winners.

Back at Home Blogging

Hello! My name is Afua Asenso. I am a sophomore at the College of William and Mary (or as I like to call it William & Scary, if you attend the school you would definitely understand this reference) in Williamsburg, VA. My major is in Finance with a minor in Public Policy & German Studies. I am originally from Haymarket,VA ; a small town in Northern Virginia.

Starting January 1st, 2017 in the new and hopefully better year  I will be traveling to Göttingen, Germany for 2 weeks to study abroad, research, and travel the area. The goal of my research is to design a survey and develop a research plan in Göttingen, Germany in regards to the African and African-American or multicultural experience (responses, reactions, challenges, discrimination etc...)  as a college or high school student. As well as the student participation, I will also record my experiences as an African female as well. The objective of our research is in the future to blog, report, and analyze these results into a film documentary and blog post. This research project also serves as a way for me to start delving and participating into undergrad research at William and Mary through the WMSURE program.

Along with my research I am completing my German courses at the Goethe Insitut. The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. They promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. Also providing information about cultural, social and political life in our nation. The cultural and educational programs encourage intercultural dialogue and enable cultural involvement.  Also I have my own apartment provided by the Institut where I will be residing. Besides the academically packed days, I plan on exploring the towns restaurants and bars, theaters, museums, research institutes, and local universities!  There will be pictures and videos uploaded daily to document my experience and progression of my research. I will also be posting in German with side translations. I would like to give a huge thanks to WMSURE, Professor Charity-Anne Hudley, and Professor Jennifer Taylor for supporting and assisting me throughout these few months to finalize my research project.  Feel free to post comments, questions, or thoughts along the journey!
